Josef Albers, the great artist/educator of the 20th Century, said, “Colors deceive continuously”. And with the help of three simple guidelines developed by 19th Century French scientist, Michele Eugene Chevreul, we can predict how color will try to deceive us! In my class Color Play: Beyond Color Theory, I’ll share those rules and help you apply them to your own quilt designs, regardless of your inspiration!
In this class we’ll explore:
• How to make your quilts sparkle with value contrast
• How to make your quilts glow with saturation contrast
• How to create powerful and credible transparencies
• How to alter the appearance of a color by placing a different color next to it
This class encourages experimentation in an environment of joyful exploration. Using strips of solid fabrics in a rainbow of colors, values, and saturation, we will explore these ideas and, in the process, strengthen your color confidence.
Materials fee: Color wheel; a wide assortment of fabric strips and squares in a range of hue, value, and saturation.
