This is the perfect bag for carrying your knitting or hand sewing projects, and you’ll complete your first one in class. A wonderful canvas for using favorite fabrics and prints to best advantage, its easy construction and unique closure will make it your go-to bag for your own toting needs, as well as when you want to make a special gift for a friend. Bring your own fabric; see supply list for details.

  • Advance Prep:
    Be sure to purchase the Perfect Project Bag pattern before class using the link in the Student Supply List.
    • Cut( 4) 8 1/2 x 14-inch pieces print fabric for bag exterior. NOTE: The 8 1/2-inch side will be the top of your bag. Pay attention to orientation if you have directional fabric.
    • Cut (4) 8 1/2 x 14-inch pieces for bag interior
    • Cut (4) 8 x 13 1/2-inches interfacing
    • Fuse (1) interfacing to the wrong side of (1) bag exterior fabric - center the interfacing on fabric - there should be 1/4" extra fabric around interfacing. Repeat for remaining (3) interfacing and bag exterior pieces.

    Sewing machine set up for piecing with 1/4-inch foot, thread to coordinate with fabric, rotary cutting supplies, 6 x 12-inch ruler, 6 x 24-inch ruler, and iron set up close by.

    You will also need:  Thread to coordinate with fabric; marking tool; chop stick; sand paper; rotary cutting supplies; 6 x 12-inch ruler; 6 x 24-inch ruler; iron.

     

    Fabric requirements:

    • 1/2 yard print fabric for bag exterior
    • 1/2 yard print fabric for bag interior
    • 1 yard medium weight fusible interfacing (Pellon 808 or Craft Fuse or similiar)
    • 2 yards 3/16-inch cording
    • 1-inch wooden bead (In order for the bead closure to work, 4 strands of cording must fit through the hole in the bead. It should be snug but not too tight.)
  • Completion Level: Students should complete their bags.
