This skill builder class is focused on the most versatile building block in a quilter's bag of tricks, the half-square triangle. Explore a dozen ways to make half square triangles, learn the math behind it, and play with a collection of tools to help make them more quickly and accurately. Includes foundation piecing, template use, accurate 1/4 inch seams, triangle quilt math, formulas for up and down-sizing to fit your designs and working with specialty notions. Bring your own fabric; see supply list for details.

  • Supply List:

    Paper scissors, fabric scissors, small scissors or snips, straight pins, mechanical pencil, marking instrument (pen, pencil or chalk), applique pins, seam ripper, rotary cutter and ruler. Note: Rotary cutting mats will be available in the classroom.


    Fabric requirements:
    • Scrap cotton fabrics in various sizes (3-4 pieces need to be at least 8 inches square, 4-5 pieces need to be at least 5 inches wide x WOF (width of fabric). Nothing smaller than 4 x 4 inches square.
    • 1- 2 yards neutral background fabric

  • Completion Level:

    Students will learn 12 different methods to make half square triangles.
