In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn the beautiful Japanese art of Sashiko while transforming your own denim jacket into a custom, story-filled piece of wearable art. Sashiko, which means “little stabs,” began as a practical running-stitch technique used to repair and strengthen clothing. Over time, it has evolved into a stunning form of embroidery known for its bold geometric patterns, symbolism, and meditative rhythm. You’ll start by planning a sashiko design for your jacket—choosing from simple pre-drawn patterns or tracing your own layout with easy templates. Then you’ll learn how to stitch directly through denim using traditional sashiko threads, long needles, and simple running stitches. Step by step, you’ll map out and stitch a meaningful section on the back, sleeves, or pockets of your jacket. By the end of class, you’ll leave with a beautifully stitched denim jacket in progress (or a finished feature panel), plus the confidence to keep adding sashiko to more areas of clothing.
