What began as a traditional patriotic pattern has morphed into a bright and whimsical quilt. This twist on the original offers the chance to use your favorite hoarded scraps or layer cake to create a dynamic quilt with a truly modern aesthetic. Explore new possibilities with background fabrics and learn how to create movement with block rotation. Bring your own fabric; see supply list for details.

  • Student Maximum: 20
  • Category(ies): Quiltmaking, Stretch Your Creativity
  • Experience Level: Adventurous Beginner
  • Supply List:

Paper scissors, fabric scissors, small scissors or snips, straight pins, pencil, marking instrument (pen, pencil or chalk) and seam ripper.

    Fabric requirements:

Choose either quilt (56 x 56 inches) or table runner (16 x 32 inches) version. All blocks finish at 8 inch square. This is a good scrappy quilt, and a perfect place to use those precious hoarded fabrics of which you only have a small amount left. Raid your scrap bins! Consider broadening your horizons with an outside-the-box background color, too.

    Quilt Version (56 x 56 inches):

    • Arrows: up to 49 prints (repeats if you choose) at least 10 inches square
    • Background: 2.75 yards (3 if you want to be really safe)

    Table Runner Version (16 x 32 inches):

    • Arrows: 8 different prints at least 10 inches square
    • Background: 1/2 yard
