Join in the fun and learn how to easily make these beautiful three-dimensional hollyhocks! Students will learn about needle and wet felting, embellishment fibers, and different kinds of wool through this beginner-friendly approach. The required kit provides students with supplies to make 15 flowers in three different colors (5 flowers per color), 3 stems, and leaves. We will discuss how this method can be easily adapted to make a variety of felted flowers. We will conclude with a look at the many wonderful way's students may display and utilize their fabulous, felted creations. The background and frame in the picture are not included.

  • Student Maximum: 100
  • Category(ies): Rookies and Refreshers, Fiber and Needle Arts, Home Décor, Embellishment, Surface Design, Stretch Your Creativity
  • Experience Level: Beginner
  • Advance Prep: You will need access to a sink, running water, and a workspace to lightly wet felt your flowers and lay them out to dry. If you wish to stitch your leaves prior to felting them, you will need a sewing machine in good working order and your thread of choice for the leaf veins. You may choose to free motion or straight stitch the veins.

Please copy the hollyhock leaves onto the dissolvable fabric using a pen, the template, and the provided fabric in the class kit.  Be sure to keep the leaves close together as indicated on the template as you will be using the dissolvable fabric to create the flowers as well.

  • Supply List:

Please order the required kit directly from Karen for $25-$47 plus shipping using the link below. Order at least one week before the class to allow plenty of time for shipping. (if you are ordering less than one week before the class, you are welcome to join the class as scheduled, and follow along with the recording once the kit has arrived as you will have access to the recorded class for one year.)

    You will also need:

Clover 5 Needle Felting tool, felting mat (these can be purchased with the kit), scissors, pen, lightbox (or use a window to trace leaves onto the dissolvable fabric in your kit), dish soap for felting such as Dawn or olive oil soap, Superglue or other fabric glue, paper towels, three containers to soak and rinse flowers, white vinegar. Students will need access to a sink, running water, and workspace. Helpful, but not required: shelf or drawer liner can be helpful during the felting process, long tweezers, fabric stiffener (Stiffy or Aleenes are recommended), a container for the stiffener, and a foam brush or paintbrush to put it on. I use stiffener on my leaves, but it is not a necessity. A sewing machine in good working order set up for free motion or traditional stitching and thread in your choice of leaf color is optional to stitch veins on the leaves. If you have an embellisher, you may enjoy using it to speed up the needle felting process. Fabric backing and frame are not included.
