The New Tailored Shirt: A Two-Part Series
One of the most versatile components of a casual or business wardrobe, the new shirt offers unlimited design potential and wardrobe flexibility. It can be worn cropped or as a tunic, over skinny jeans or leggings. It can include (or not) bias side insets, front darts, slot buttonholes, a rotated sleeve seam that intersects the back yoke, an easy “fold and sew” sleeve placket, a cuff that is sectioned with straight grain and bias pieces…..becoming, in one form or another, a garment you reach for nearly every day.
See how to change the dart location, walk through initial construction steps and the application of a front band, the ‘set-up’ for a shirttail hem, collar and collar band construction and the application of the collar band to the front band that eliminates all bulk. Really!
