Discover how to create your own personal drama in this “it-really-is-all-about-me-this-time” day with Cynthia. What does this have to do with fashion sewing? Everything! Her unique and exceptionally effective, useful and mistake-inhibiting look at how we use color when choosing fabrics is the first step on the way to creating clothes you simply love to wear. Take home a collection of fabric swatches representing your best neutrals (you’ll be surprised by at least one of these), and explore how to use them in combination with other colors for your very best, most flattering looks.

Transition into a discussion of the print shapes and sizes, as you learn the truth of Cynthia’s caveat: “If a piece of fabric calls your name, the safest bet is not to answer!” The shift in your thinking will be well underway by mid-day, and you’ll feel totally empowered to make great fabric choices on your own.

As Cynthia’s consultations and discussions progress, you’ll of course arrive at styles for flattering garment lengths and circumferences -- the “longitudes and latitudes” that suit your body best. Learn to change your silhouette by re-thinking the urge to ‘cover up’ and instead, learn to make gentler transitions, add or subtract visual volume and more. At the end of the day, you’ll know if a choice you want to make is a good one, whether it’s about fabric color, print or scale … and how to combine those choices with patterns in the correct proportions for you. When each piece you make really, truly works for you, the entire group of separates works together to form almost unlimited looks.

Bring a tape measure and, most importantly, 2 – 3 of your favorite garments -- the ones you wear all the time and feel great in, plus one you thought you’d love -- but just don’t. Discussion about these pieces will help everyone in class understand and remember each lesson on the way to the goal: to create the garments that you simply love to wear.  You'll leave class armed with four new patterns of your choice (your shopping spree!), the knowledge necessary to create a flattering silhouette and a collection of swatches to help you build the core of your wardrobe upon your best neutrals -- in short, ready to go home and get started making clothes you'll love to wear because they will flatter YOU.
